Base length equals surface length multiplied by 1.5. The extra half creates the soft dips between anchor points and the trailing ends that fall over the table edge. Skip it and the garland reads as a straight green line, which is the difference between a styled table and a decorated one.
Applied to common surfaces: a 6-foot sweetheart table needs 9 feet, an 8-foot banquet table needs 12, and a standard doorway arch needs about 1.5 times its total perimeter path. For staircase banisters, measure along the rail rather than the floor, since the diagonal is longer than it looks.

Cut your flower stems short (3 inches). Distribute them along the garland in 4–6 small clusters, not evenly spaced:
